Milwaukee 2630-20 – The Basics

A part of the company’s M18 lineup of power tools, the Milwaukee 2630-20 is a cordless circular saw with a powerful 3,500 RPM engine. As such, it can be used for cutting applications in a variety of professions, including carpentry, plumbing, finishing, framing, and others.

Design-wise, it is lightweight and comes with features that provide comfort of use – the unit’s soft-grip handle allows one to use it with precision even in slippery environments. Its durability is preserved by the presence of magnesium guards (both top and bottom) that protect it from impact damage.

As it is M18 compatible, this circular saw can be used with six different Milwaukee battery packs. It can be purchased in its bare-tool version or inside a combo kit and comes accompanied by a generous 5-year warranty. Here’s a closer look at its features:

The Features

Design

The design of this cordless circular saw is a premium one – the device looks and feels more expensive than it actually is. With the weight of 6.8 pounds and the dimensions of 8″ x 12.2″ x 10″, the Milwaukee 2630-20 is a relatively compact and lightweight model. This reduced weight doesn’t have a negative effect on the unit’s durability, which is preserved by the presence of magnesium lower and upper guards. Moreover, the model’s shoe has been manufactured from aircraft-grade aluminum.

To provide the user with the comfort of use, Milwaukee decided to equip this saw with a soft grip handle. As the name suggests, this handle feels great in hand and allows one to perform accurate cuts even when he’s operating in a wet environment. The overall balance is very good, although that’s something we’ve expected from Milwaukee.

Power

At its heart, the 2630-20 has a potent engine which spins the blade at the maximum speed of 3,500 rotations per minute. Fortunately, the model is accompanied by a 24-tooth carbide blade – you’ll be able to get a lot of use out of it.

This circular saw allows the user to easily power all the way through 3/4″ plywood and to make up to 50° bevel cuts. The angle can be adjusted up to 45° and the depth up to 1-1/2″. In other words, the model provides a large amount of versatility when it comes to cutting any material.

Another feature that we liked is the presence of electronic brakes. Their purpose is stopping the unit’s blade immediately after you’re finished with cutting. This means that you won’t have to wait for the blade to slow down and waste time – the job downtime is reduced significantly.

Battery

The Milwaukee 2630-20 circular saw is a part of the company’s M18 lineup and uses the same batteries as all other tools in this range. Six battery pack models are compatible with it, but none of these are included if you decide to go for the bare-tool version. Purchasing this saw inside the 2630-20 toolset brings both the multi-voltage charger and a single 5.0ah REDLITHIUM battery.

Things we liked about it

For the price that it comes at, this circular saw has a lot to offer. The Milwaukee 2630-20 possesses the design that makes it look pricier than it actually is, and provides the user with the optimal comfort during operation.

It is powerful enough to complete most of your standard cutting tasks, while its additional features, such as the electronic brakes or the soft-grip handle, increase productivity and make it a real joy to work with. We were especially pleased to see the unit accompanied by a 24-tooth carbide blade.

Another great thing about 2630-20 is that it can be used with M18 battery packs. This turns the device into a highly suitable choice for those heavily invested in this lineup. The 5-year warranty also deserves words of praise and is something that puts the model above the competition.

Q

Things we didn’t like

Although well-designed and quite potent, the model comes at a price point that tells us that it shouldn’t be used for heavier applications. It’s unable to keep with the heavy workload and shouldn’t be purchased by those who need a really powerful cordless circular saw.

Our only other complaint is the short battery life, even when you’re using a battery pack of highest capacity.

General Impressions

User reviews for this saw are overwhelmingly positive, with the majority of those who bought it claiming that it’s an excellent product. They say that it’s a surprisingly well-designed and powerful entry-level tool that completes most tasks with speed and ease. Most of the users agree that 2630-20 is an excellent choice for quick fixes and DIY projects.

Conclusion

Inexpensive but quite capable, the Milwaukee 2630-20 is a good choice for those searching for a budget-friendly cordless saw with a solid performance. The combination of its excellent design and useful features makes provides a great value for the money. When we combine this with the included carbide blade and a 5-year warranty, we get an attractive deal that’s pretty hard to beat.
