Kobalt KCP 5324A-03 Review Summary:

Kobalt has released their new series of 24V brushless power tools. It is a result of ardent two-year work of their dedicated engineers. Each tool in their 24V Max lineup is rebuilt from scratch.

So far, it seems that they have done a great job. The specs on their units can match those of much more famous brands, such as DeWalk or Milwaukee. What makes the series so special is the implementation of the new and improved brushless technology.

The technology makes the units much more durable, while not compromising their weight. It also offers better performance. The best part – all of Kobalt’s kits are budget-friendly, including this one.

This kit consists of a drill/driver, impact driver, 24 1.5-Ah Li-Ion battery and a charger. It’s a light kit that will probably be of better service to hobbyists, rather than professional users. Kobalt’s combo kits are generally comprised of basic tools, so one gets the impression that pros are not their target audience.

Another prominent feature of all Kobalt’s powertools is the 5-year limited warranty they come with. The battery comes with a 3-year warranty. No matter how you intend to use this kit, you can rest assured it will serve you well and for quite some time.

Kobalt 2-Tool 24-Volt Max Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) Brushless Power Tool Combo Kit – The Basics

The kit consists of a brushless, cordless drill/driver and an impact driver, as well as a 24V Max 1.5 Ah Li-Ion battery and a 45Wcharger. The kit is excellent for heavy-duty work, and only because of the powerful impact driver.

Thanks to their brushless motors, you can rest assured the tools will serve you for quite some time. They are also excellent for delicate application and home repairs.

The impact driver features a comfortable, rubberized over-grip that allows for better control and prolonged use. It’s relatively light, so you shouldn’t have any problems wielding it all day long. The unit features a built-in LED light that helps you achieve better accuracy and increases safety as well.

This model isn’t quite the most powerful unit Kobalt has to offer, but it still is indeed powerful. It delivers 1500 “/lbs of torque. That ought to be enough for any task that comes to mind.

The unit operates at a maximum of 2600 RPM and 3400 IPM. It is equipped with an electronically controlled motor. Its purpose is to ensure optimal performance.

The other tool in the kit is the brushless, cordless drill/driver. It comes with a brushless motor that can deliver 500 “/lbs of torque. It might not be the most powerful drill/driver out there, but it’s great for a variety of tasks -especially those requiring a bit more delicacy.

What really makes it a great tool are the two-speed gearbox and the variable speed trigger. The lower gear goes from 0 to 500 RPM, and the high gear goes from 0 to 1850 RPM. It’s really your typical light-duty tool that performs very well at tasks it was designed for.

The Features

Impact Driver

The impact driver is excellent for prolonged use, as its comfortable, rubberized over-mold minimizes user fatigue. The tool isn’t that heavy, so it’s possible to wield it with ease, and, considering that its packing 1500 “/lbs of torque, it’s one of the more powerful cordless impact drivers on the market.

It comes with an electronically-controlled brushless motor. The brushless technology is the best part of Kobalt’s new, revamped lineup and the same goes for this particular unit. The brushless motor delivers much better performance and increases the work life of the tool.

This neat impact driver has only one speed. It operates at 0 to 2600 RPM and can deliver 3400 IPM, without a load. The tool features a nice built-in LED work light that allows for increased accuracy and a safer work environment.

Drill/Driver

It’s an excellent unit when it comes to light-duty and delicate work, but that’s pretty much it. Just like the other unit in the kit, this one is equipped with a brushless motor that allows for better performance and increased durability.

Delivering only 500 inch/lbs of torque, it’s not nearly as powerful as the other unit in the kit, but it should be enough to get the work done. They make a great combo, as the impact driver is excellent for heavy-duty tasks, while the drill driver is more apt for delicate work.

The drill/driver features a two-speed gearbox and a variable speed trigger. The speed is 0 to 500 RPM and 0 to 1850 RPM. Another aspect in which this unit sort of underperforms.

This unit also has a nice, ergonomic over-grip that minimizes hand fatigue. The light weight of the unit allows for prolonged and comfortable use. The runtime of this unit is above average, mostly due to its brushless motor.

The tool is equipped with a built-in LED light. It’s excellent when it comes to accuracy and safety, but it’s trigger-activated, making it not as convenient as it could be.

Battery

The kit comes with one 1.5-Ah battery. It takes one hour to recharge and can be charged in 20-degree weather. It also features a LED fuel gauge.

You can use it with all of Kobalt’s 24-Max tools, not only with the ones from this kit. In fact, every Kobalt24-V MAX unit is compatible with every 24-V Max battery. The kit comes with a 45W charger which is great news as not every Kobalt kit comes with one.

Warranty

One of the more notable features of any Kobalt combo kit is their excellent warranty policy. Each tool in the kit comes with a 5-year limited warranty. The battery comes with a 3-year limited warranty.

Extras

Aside from the two basic tools, the kit comes with, two bit holders with screws, two belt clip with screws, and an S2 drill bit.

R

Things we liked about it

The brushless technology is probably the most significant selling point of any Kobalt kit. Brushless motors last much longer compared to brushed ones, and perform considerably better. No wonder the manufacturer offers a 5-year warranty, which is another advantage of the kit.

The maximum torque of the impact driver is pretty impressive. Both tools are quite user-friendly and suitable for prolonged use. Even though this is just a two-unit tool kit, it comes with a battery and a charged.

Q

Things we didn’t like

Each tool has a built-in LED light. Unfortunately, on both units, it’s trigger activated. You can only count on it once you press the trigger, which sort of defeats the purpose.

What Users Say About The Kobalt KCP 5324A-03

A small kit that packs two well-built units. However, one is quite powerful, while the other is not so much. This kit might be better for hobbyists and homeowners, rather than professionals.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a drill/driver and impact driver that won’t break down often and that will serve you for the years to come, you can’t go wrong with this unit. The impact driver is packing a lot of power and is excellent for heavy-duty work, while the drill/driver is built for more delicate work that doesn’t require much power.
