DeWalt DCK590L2 – The Basics

The tools included in this kit are the DCD985 hammer drill, DCF885 impact driver, DCS393 circular saw, DCS381 reciprocating saw, and the DCL040 flashlight. Along with the tools, you’re also getting the standard DeWalt accessories – a carrying bag, a side handle, the belt hook, two batteries, and the charger.

Each of the tools found in this kit offers top performance, great design, and durability. The company’s devices are respected among handymen and that’s the trust it certainly earned. The DCK590L2 kit continues that reputation and could very well benefit various groups of users, including amateurs and DIY enthusiasts.

Another great thing about this toolset is that it is a part of the company’s fast-growing 20V Max lineup, which currently consists of more than 180 products. This means that all of these tools use the same batteries – they’re interchangeable and there’s a good chance that you’ve already got some inside your workshop. Staying within one brand’s ecosystem can be quite beneficial when it comes to power tools, as it makes life a lot easier and also saves money. Let’s check out the features of the individual tools:

The Features

Hammer Drill 1/2″ DCD985

The first tool in this combo set is the 1/2″ hammer drill, which, thanks to its beefy 535-watt engine, effortlessly provides the user with enough power for completion of light and medium tasks. It comes with a standard ½” chuck and carbide inserts whose job is to minimize slipping. They also give a better grip and can significantly increase the drill’s lifespan. This should be of essential importance to all handymen who use hammer drills on a daily basis – they will undoubtedly appreciate this feature.

The model comes with the company’s exclusive 3-speed design (0-600 / 0-1,250 / 0 – 2,000 RPM) and an all-metal transmission that makes the tool 30% quicker than most of the hammer drills in the same price category. The unit is among DeWalt’s most highly-rated power tools and one that you’ll be able to use for a number of applications.

Impact Driver 1/4″ DCF885

The DCF885 impact driver, on the other hand, is capable of reaching the maximum speed of 2,800 RPM. This is quite impressive – the tool is over 40% quicker than the standard devices of this type and offers genuine top performance.

It features a ¼” hex chuck that is fully compatible with 1-inch bit tips. Moreover, it has a highly manageable size and is an ideal solution when it comes to working in tight, hard-to-reach spots. At just 3.4 pounds of weight, it causes no user fatigue even when used for hours on end.

Circular Saw 6 1/2″ DCS393

The circular saw that’s included in this kit is as equally impressive. The DCS393 is powered by a 460-watt motor and provides sufficient strength for ripping, bevel and plunge cutting, and all other kinds of cutting operations. It sports a 6.5″ blade and reaches the maximum speed of impressive 5,000 RPM.

Just like all other tools manufactured by DeWalt, this circular saw also has an ergonomic handle that provides comfort during long working sessions. Furthermore, it can be used by both right-handed and left-handed people.

Reciprocating Saw DCS381

One of the most remarkable features of this reciprocating saw is how lightweight it is – at just 3.5 pounds, you won’t have to worry about cramps at all. The blade clamp setup of this model dramatically simplifies blade swapping, but it also allows the user to reverse the blade and use it for upside-down/flush cutting. The overall speed is rather fast (0-300 SPM), while the presence of variable speed and the electric brake gives the user full control over every operation.

LED Work Light DCL040

In our opinion, DeWalt’s decision to include a LED flashlight in this kit deserves particular words of praise – those who had to work in dimly-lit areas will definitely agree with us. The model provides 110 lumens of lighting power and has a rotatable head that can be locked in several different positions.

Accessories & Warranty

As we said, the DCK590L2 combo kit also includes a couple of accessories. These are the two batteries (3.0 Ah Lithium-Ion), a charger (12V/20V), a black & yellow soft-sided contractor bag, as well as the belt hook and a 360° side handle. The whole package is covered by the manufacturer’s standard 3-year limited warranty.

Things we liked about it

There is a lot to like about this combo kit. As already mentioned, all of the tools included in it are well-designed, highly durable, and offer impressive performance. Whether you want to do some drilling, driving, cutting, or ripping, the DCK590L2 has a solution for each of your needs.

We also liked the fact that DeWalt supplemented this toolset with a quality LED flashlight, as well as with the necessary batteries, charger, and the handy contractor bag. These items round off the package and turn it into an even more attractive offering.

Q

Things we didn’t like

Even though the DCS393 circular saw is a fantastic device and one that makes short work of both soft and hard wood, it comes with a significant downside – it has no fence. The same goes for the reciprocating saw, which has no adjustment to the guard and therefore prevents the user from controlling the depth of the cut.

What Users Say About The DeWalt DCK590L2

Most of the people who bought this kit have already owned several cordless toolsets over the years and claim that DCK590L2 is a fantastic upgrade. They say that this combo kit is the perfect replacement for their most frequently used power tools and something they are glad to recommend to their friends.

Conclusion

It’s pretty safe to say that this kit appeals to both the hobbyists and professionals. It’s a set of powerful, well-designed, and interchangeable tools that easily meet the requirements demanded by cabinet makers, remodelers, electricians, contractors, and general homeowners. It’s a practical choice and one whose purchase you almost certainly won’t regret – DeWalt rarely disappoints.
