Makita XPH102 Review Summary:

When talking about power tools, one thing that always remains true is the fact that completing projects is far easier with a cordless drill than without it. Luckily, today’s market offers a wide range of these handy tools, all the way from the cheap, basic models to the high-end drills produced by the well-known companies.

And Makita is certainly one of those – this Japanese manufacturer of power tools is among the most famous companies of this kind, with their devices being held in high regard by both DIY users and the professional critics. We’ve decided to take a closer look at one of their newest models – the XPH102.

It’s already one of the most renowned cordless drills produced by Makita, and for a reason – it offers features such as the ergonomic design, a massive torque output, variable speed, portability, and many other features that make it a model worth considering for purchase. Let’s check out the Makita XPH102!

XPH102 Specifications:

  • Weight – 10.3lbs
  • Dimensions – 5.6″ x 16.9″ x 13″
  • Batteries – Lithium Ion
  • Torque – 480 in-lb
  • Voltage – 18 volts

Makita XPH102 – The Basics

This famous Japanese manufacturer is well-known for the quality of their devices, and XPH102 is certainly not an exception. Even though it’s in the category that consists of stiff and hard-to-beat competition, the model still manages to provide impressive power and an excellent value for the money. Those looking to replace their rusty old cordless drill with a model that’s capable of providing more battery life and more power will find the Makita XPH102 to be an excellent choice.

One of the most impressive things about this cordless drill is that it offers 0-600 and 0-1900 RPM, as well as 0-9,000 BPM (low speed) and 0-28,500 BPM (high speed). It also sports an astonishing battery life, an ergonomic design for more comfort, and the protection technology that protects it from things like water and dust. Let’s have a closer look at these handy features:

The Features

The Design

Even though this drill is very powerful, it’s also compact and lightweight and allows the user to reach all those tight spaces while working with it. The drill itself weighs only around 4 pounds, making it one of the most comfortable models to work with on the whole market. One can easily take advantage of this and work longer without becoming fatigued, especially if we’re talking about larger projects.

Power

Like we said, the XPH102 produces impressive power – up to 28,500 BPM and 1,900 RPM. Furthermore, it sports a variable speed trigger, allowing the user to choose from two different speeds depending on the needed amount of power for a particular project. The powerful 4-pole motor generates 480 in-lb of torque, which is very impressive and guaranteed to get the job done.

Battery Life

The battery life of this device is yet another impressive thing – depending on the sort of work you’re doing, it will last for at least three hours. Furthermore, the charging time is also quite remarkable, as it takes around half an hour to fully charge the battery. This enables the user to spend less time waiting and more time working, while the large battery capacity allows one to get more out of each charge.

Protection

The Makita XPH102 sports the so-called Extreme Protection Technology (XPT), whose purpose is to reduce the dust and water intake and thus make the device more reliable in the harsh working conditions. It protects the inner components of the drill by efficiently draining the water and dust sediment from the device.

Makita Drill with Led Light

Pros:

N

Powerful four-pole high-speed motor

N

Lightweight and easy-to-operate

N

Outstanding battery life

N

Protection technology

Cons:

N

No extra battery

N

Noisy on occasions

R

Things we liked about it

This classic Makita device excels in almost every field we tested it in. The Japanese manufacturer has a tremendous reputation for the outstanding performance of their drills, and XPH102 is no exception. Both of its dual speed settings offer enough power for smooth completion of both small and large DIY projects. The included Lithium-Ion battery, on the other hand, allows extended working time once it’s fully charged, and that’s always a big plus in our book.

We also have to give some special praise to device’s design. It has been manufactured from some of the most robust materials available and sports an ergonomic design that causes no fatigue after prolonged operation. There’s also the Extreme Protection Technology (XPT) – its purpose is to increase the tool’s dust and water resistance.

Q

Things we didn’t like

The 18V Lithium-Ion that’s included in the package is the only one you’ll be getting – no extra batteries are included. The presence of an additional battery would make this kit an even better offer, and in this way, you’ll have to rely on the singular one that comes in the box. Once its lifespan is over, you’ll have to purchase a new one.

Furthermore, we didn’t like the occasional noise that appears once you release the trigger and the electrical brake stops the device – it’s odd and can be quite irritating. Fortunately, it doesn’t appear often enough for us to deem it as a serious disadvantage.

What Users Say About The Makita XPH102

People seem to like this cordless drill for its outstanding performance and the long battery life. The majority of users are saying that they’re quite pleased with the tool’s ergonomic design and the protection technology that increases its lifespan. Some are even giving praise to some minor features – like the built-in LED lighting or the included metal clamping fixture.

Users are also very pleased with the extended warranty period (three years) provided by Makita, as well as with the fact that the company offers replacement or refund within 30 of purchase.

Conclusion

The Makita XPH102 is, without a doubt, one of the most effective and powerful tools of this kind currently available on the market. It’s guaranteed to help you even with the most challenging tasks, as it sports an impressive output and an outstanding design that allows long working sessions. We were particularly pleased with the drill’s battery, which is one of its main selling points and a thing that deserves special praise.

Despite some minor flaws, we think that XPH102 is absolutely worth considering for purchase – it’s yet another remarkable power tool from Makita.
